Protect Your Privacy
(Continued)
There are many ways to safeguard your printed personal and confidential information from being compromised. Old documents stored in cabinets and drawers could have social security numbers, addresses, date of births and other vital information that scammers would love to gain access to in order to steal your identity and commit fraud. Shredding these documents is important because it protects against identity theft, helps to ensure privacy laws, helps you to declutter, and is environmentally friendly. It will give you some peace of mind too! We’re taught to be extra cautions with our passwords and PINs so shouldn’t that apply to our personal papers too? The good news is that shredding machines are inexpensive and should last a long time.
Also, if you have old, inoperable electronic devices like computers, phones, chargers, printers, and monitors taking up space, find an e-Waste disposal location near you and drop them off for safe disposal. Before throwing out computers, first remove & destroy the hard drive and any internal memory. Getting rid of e-Waste will make you feel safer, lighter, and helps the environment.
