To protect the privacy of our members, and to comply with National Credit Union Administration (NCUA) regulations, Los Angeles Federal Credit Union ("LAFCU") has created a "Privacy Policy." The text of this policy, which follows, also appears in our "Master Agreements and Disclosures" brochure, available at any LAFCU branch or by mail:
This Privacy Policy covers the use LAFCU of non-public personal member information. Non-public personal member information is defined in applicable laws and regulations, and generally means information that is identified with an individual member ("you"), which is not obtainable from a public source (such as from court records). LAFCU obtains personal member information that is primarily received from you (such as a loan application). LAFCU may also collect information of a personal financial nature from other sources (such as credit reports) after you authorize LAFCU to collect such information. Without this authorization for such information, it may prevent LAFCU from offering you a product or service.
From our business experience with you, LAFCU maintains personal, non-public member information or other types of information such as:
- Identification information such as Social Security Number, account number, Personal Identification Numbers (PIN) codes and addresses.
- Financial information such as creditworthiness, credit capacity (asset/liabilities), employment (past and current), income, and expenses which may appear on a loan application.
- Account and loan activity, balances and history.
LAFCU will use personal non-public information from you only for legitimate business purposes consistent with applicable laws and regulations. LAFCU and its CUSO affiliate will use non-public personal financial information from you with the CUNA Mutual Group (including Minnesota Life Insurance Company) and COTRAK. The CUNA Mutual Group and COTRAK receive personal non-public information of our members in order to offer you various insurance products. The CUNA Mutual Group and COTRAK maintain strong confidentiality protection of all LAFCU member personal non-public information and acknowledge LAFCU's proprietary ownership of this information.
LAFCU maintains relationships with these non-affiliated third parties:
- Third party services such as ATM networks and check printers may receive member non-public personal member information in order to offer these services to you.
- Direct marketing by third parties may be conducted in order to offer additional products or services, such as loans, to you.
- Other non-affiliated third parties may be utilized in the mailing of ballots, statement mailings, or promotional materials. These non-affiliated third parties only receive partial non-public information (such as partial account numbers on statements, or only addresses on ballots) in order that information reaches you.
- At times, LAFCU will disclose non-public personal member information when asked to comply with subpoenas, court orders, or other authorized governmental requests.
- LAFCU may disclose non-public personal member information with your written consent (such as power of attorney).
- LAFCU may disclose non-public personal member information in connection with a proposed or actual transfer of an account or loan to another company.
- LAFCU may disclose non-public personal member information in order to protect you from fraud, unauthorized transfers, member disputes, and as necessary to our attorneys, accountants, auditors, and the National Credit Union Administration.
As outlined in this Policy, LAFCU may share non-public personal member information with affiliated and non-affiliated third parties. LAFCU will not share or communicate non-public information (other than that which is allowable or exempt under the applicable law) if you "opt out." To "opt out," contact LAFCU at (877) MY LAFCU (695 - 2328). You can also e-mail us at memberservices@lafcu.org. Please allow four to six weeks to process your "opt-out" request. A single "opt-out" will cover all your accounts at LAFCU.
This request will not apply to 1) disclosures of your information regarding LAFCU, to the extent such disclosures are allowed by law; 2) disclosures required by law; and 3) disclosures to which you consent in writing.
